Why Chain Link Fence?

Chain link fencing. Security, privacy, and years of worry free maintenance.

Since all chain link fence components are galvanized you receive a completely maintenance free product which requires no painting, staining or replacing of rotten posts or boards, not to mention the hundreds of dollars you will save on stain over the years!

Chain link fencing can provide you with clear security or you can install a variety of maintenance free weaves or slatting to create a private secured yard.

Like all products on the market today, prices on chain link fencing vary according to quality. Two chain link fences may look the same but can be of very different qualities.

Key differences can be in the following areas:

1.  The thickness of the chain link mesh. There are different thickness of wire used to manufacture chain link mesh. This measurement is referred to as gauge (Ga.). The higher the number the thinner the wire.  A common standard for a residential fence is 11 Ga. galvanized wire, or vinyl coated wire, or vinyl coated wire obtaining a 9 Ga. thickness.

2.  The wall thickness of the pipe. Generally the thicker the pipe the stronger it is. In the fence industry, pipe is measured by outside diameter (O.D). This is the measurement across the open end of the pipe. It is important to realize that any number of quotations may show the same O.D pipe sizes but may have different wall thicknesses. Be sure all of your quotations state the wall thickness of your pipe.

3.  The amount of galvanizing on the chain link mesh and pipe. The galvanizing is what protects these products from rusting due to exposure to the elements. In order to have a long lasting, maintenance free fence this coating is extremely important. A common standard on chain link is 1.2 oz./ sq. ft.

4.  The post hole depths and diameters during installation. All posts should be cemented into the ground unless you have asked different. Without the correct post hole diameters and depths, there will be a loss of stability, along with the concern of frost heaving. A common residential standard is: line posts – 6” x 24”, and terminal posts – 6” x 36”.

5.  The experience of the installation crew.
